A Moonlit Peace

Full Hunter’s Moon hanging high in eastern sky
Special moon with halo ring encircled in beauty
So far away in frigid airless space you hang
Yet bound to this fertile Earth, orbiting nigh

Affected by us no less than we by you,
As beauteous Lady you’re known by many
Within these Celtic spheres in which I roam –
But I know you mean so many things across this world

What does a Bushman in far Australia see
When gazing upon your brightly lit face?
What do you mean to Siberian Shaman or Mongolian priest
That’s so different from what you mean to me?

When Zulu warriors roamed their lands
And saw you hanging o’er their veldt,
What did they see, what did they feel?
Or the Islamic peoples we’re supposed to hate
– do they see the same as me when gazing at your face?

Multi-cultural and inter-tribal you’ve always been,
Being of mystery and fascination to most who’ve seen,
Be they civilizations Egyptian, Chinese or Native American,
Greek, Roman, Celtic, Germanic or else, all have revered

Perhaps, m’lady, you could help bind us all together
If only we would think when on your face we gaze
That all across this wide political world we share,
No matter our differences, we all look on you and smile…

This globe of differing faiths and cultural extremes,
So many nationalistic views and warlike traits
Have turned so many one against the other –
Yet we all have things in common and many core beliefs

Why must we forever hurt and maim,
Wars waged ‘gainst fathers and sons, mothers and daughters
Sisters and brothers, spilled bloods staining soils red!
When gazing on such wondrous moon shared by all
– I cannot help but wonder why?

Look upon this moon of ours whenever you can
No matter the season or whatever its phase
And think of those you love and have befriended –
But also those brothers and sisters unknown to you…

For their gaze may also be affixed the same place,
No matter skin color, religion, political or cultural beliefs
We’re all human and are therefore akin,
All breathing the same air and sharing many needs

Wondrous Moon, bound to us no less than we to you,
Our energies focused on your airless expanse
Orbiting this Earth in your beauty reflecting ourselves
As opening our hearts, perhaps peace and love will reign o’er us all

Thing of beauty hanging high in the sky this night,
Perhaps its only a hollow dream to think such things,
But if one inspires a few, and they yet others…
Just think what a world it’d be if all were truly neighbors!

It’s a dream I share with more than a few,
Of machetes being broken, of peace catching hold!
If only we can, if we’ll help the intolerance and hatred end…
Imagine, if you can, what a lovely world the moonlight
would shine down upon…hopefully its not too much to ask….
